Founding Scriptures:
Fight the good fight of the faith. TAKE HOLD of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. And I charge you before God, who gives life to all, and before Christ Jesus, who gave a good testimony before Pontius Pilate, that you obey this command without wavering. Then no one can find fault with you from now until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. -1 Timothy 6:12-14
I press on to TAKE HOLD of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 3:12-14
Who We Were/Are: What we see today is not the Take Hold finished product. We are currently inviting Christians of like mind and heart to come and gather in the name of Jesus Christ. We are praying for a group of Christians who are interested in growing spiritually by loving God and other people. This will be the first layer of what Take Hold will become. Once this community is established we will seek ways to reach the lost, make disciples, baptize believers, teach Scripture, and become a local community of faith (Matt. 28:19-20). We aspire to become a church gathering of redeemed people made up of the outcast, downcast, punk, drunk, freak, geek, un-churched, de-churched, churched, rich, poor, searcher, and seeker, tax collector, and fisherman (basically anyone). We want to create a safe space of refuge, sanctuary, and love for people to comfortably explore real faith and spirituality. We believe that Jesus Christ died, was buried, resurrected, ascended, and will return for his Church.
The Church: The term “church” (Greek – ekklesia) is used throughout the New Testament for the community of believers in Jesus Christ. The Church is literally “the people of God” not a building. The term is used for a local faith community (1 Cor. 1:2) and global people of God (Eph. 1:22-23). Numerous metaphors are used to describe the church (ex. Body, Bride). The emphasis is on the spiritual union of the members of the Church and with Christ the head of the ekklesia.
The Reason: Perhaps there are some who grew up in a church, but are now fed up with religion. Maybe there are those who are fighting the reality of the existence of God. Perhaps some people are sick of the hypocrisy and backstabbing that goes on within the institutional church. Maybe people are seeking something, but don’t know what it is. Perhaps there are those who are sick of all the hate in the world and are desperately seeking true love. Maybe there is a person we know who is in need of a Saviour. This is a great reason to exist. God loves us. He proved it when he sent his Son to earth as one of us and sacrificed his own life so we can have life.
